Apple's new patent: Solar power charging for Apple devices

According to a patent application published by Patently Apple on November 1, Apple's innovative method of using solar power to charge Macbooks and iOS devices is becoming more practical.

The voltage and energy produced by solar power vary with the intensity of light. To convert solar power into a safe power source for electronic devices, a converter or regulator is required to provide a device with a compliant power source, which increases costs and the size of the solar panel.

Apple's patent shows that it will install a necessary power management circuit inside the Macbook, iPad, or iPhone, allowing the device to accept power output from any solar panel without needing to connect regulators or other devices. This means that inexpensive and more portable solar panels can also power Apple devices.

Although Apple files various patents for numerous reasons, few are actually implemented in products supplied to the market. However, this particular patent has a high likelihood of being applied because, as we all know, Apple is obsessed with renewable energy. Apple's office facilities already receive 75% of their power from renewable energy sources, and they have committed to increasing this percentage to 100%. (Koshan)
