Google launched the Nexus 5 and the new Android 4.4 system last night, and the Nexus series with Google's lineage will get to try it out early in the near future. HTC is also not falling behind. Jason Mackenzie, the executive officer of HTC North America, recently confirmed to Engadget that the company will quickly adapt the new system for the HTC One. The Google Play edition of the HTC One will be upgraded to Android 4.4 within the next 15 days, while developer and unlocked versions will be upgraded to the new system within 30 days. The remaining carrier-customized and other North American HTC One inventories will receive the Android 4.4 update within 90 days.

In addition, the UI of the HTC One will also be upgraded to Sense 5.5. Sense 5.5 first appeared on the previously released HTC One max, optimizing a series of applications. For example, BlinkFeed has added a read-later function, and the camera application includes "Panorama+" and "Dual Shot" modes. Although Mackenzie did not explicitly state how Sense 5.5 will optimize Android 4.4, some corresponding adjustments should be visible.

HTC will also provide upgrade plans for other devices, including the HTC One max and One mini. Mackenzie said that specific upgrade arrangements will be detailed in future announcements. In this conversation, Mackenzie repeatedly emphasized HTC's response speed to the new system. "We don't want to slowly release the new system. We hope that within a short 90 days, One users can prioritize every official update."

Although Mackenzie's promise only represents HTC's approach in North America, considering the differences in network standards and some hardware aside, the hardware content of the HTC One is basically consistent across regions. Most of the adaptations for the new system for the North American HTC One can be reused, so it is believed that the Android 4.4 update for the HTC One in other markets should also come soon.
