Tragedy: Google confirms that devices over 2 years old cannot be updated to Android 4.4

Although "compatibility" is the biggest highlight of Android 4.4, Google also stated during the launch event that the system could run smoothly on all Android phones, regardless of their specifications. However, this does not mean that all Android devices will receive the update, such as the Galaxy Nexus. In fact, Google has already confirmed that devices older than two years will not be eligible for the Android 4.4 update.

It's worth noting that the Galaxy Nexus was the first smartphone to come with the Android 4.0 operating system, released in October 2011. It was the third device in the Nexus series after the Nexus One and Nexus S, and its specs were not too bad even by today's standards, yet it was abandoned without mercy.

Interestingly, Google cited the IT industry's common "18-month update cycle" to explain why older devices like the Galaxy Nexus would not receive updates. Google stated that since the Galaxy Nexus has been out for more than two years, it exceeds the "18-month update cycle."

This is understandable, but what is the significance of Android 4.4's biggest feature—optimization for low-specification devices?
