In the third quarter of 2013 in the global smartphone market, Chinese enterprises stood out particularly. Huawei's sales volume in the third quarter increased year-on-year by 76%, reaching 12.5 million units, ranking third. At the same time, its market share also rose from a previous 3.8% to 4.8%, which is nothing short of a miracle. According to survey results published recently by the American research company IDC, in the third quarter, a total of 258 million smartphones were sold globally, an increase of 38.8% compared to the same period last year.
Samsung's smartphone sales increased by 40.5% compared to last year, with a staggering sales volume of 81.2 million units, and a market share as high as 31.4%. Although Apple's phone sales increased year-on-year compared to last year, its performance was no match for Samsung, and its market share also dropped significantly by 13.1% year-on-year to 14.4%.
However, in the global smartphone market competition, a dark horse emerged – China's domestic brand, Huawei. Huawei's smartphone sales volume increased by 76% year-on-year in the third quarter, reaching 12.5 million units, ranking third. At the same time, its market share also rose from a previous 3.8% to 4.8%, which is nothing short of a miracle.
In contrast to the rapid growth of China's domestic brands, LG Electronics' sales volume appears lackluster. The total sales volume in the third quarter was 12 million units, with a market share of only 4.6%.
Regarding the increasingly strong "whirlwind" of China's domestic brands in the global smartphone market, relevant IDC officials analyzed: "Currently, the world mobile phone market is still dominated by Samsung and Apple phones, with the two companies jointly dividing up the global mobile phone map. However, due to their refusal to yield to each other in the fierce smartphone battle, this has given other countries' mobile phone manufacturers opportunities to seize the market, and Huawei is a typical example."
The official also said that Huawei's phones are currently developing rapidly in the global market, presenting a situation of "the fisherman benefits while the clam and the sandpiper fight." It is expected that in the future, the market share of Chinese brand smartphones will see further growth.
