Due to the production capacity issues with Retina displays, there have been constant rumors that Apple's latest iPad mini 2 tablet might face supply shortages. Recently, Apple CEO Tim Cook officially acknowledged that the supply of iPad Mini 2 will be a problem during the upcoming holiday sales season.
In Appleās quarterly earnings call, Cook kept the focus on the newly released iPad Air, calling it "the best iPad Apple has ever made," and also mentioned that the upcoming Christmas shopping season "will be an iPad Christmas." However, when the topic shifted to the new iPad mini, things seemed less clear. Cook stated, "Currently, we are not sure if we can produce enough iPad minis, nor are we certain that every consumer who wants to buy an iPad mini 2 will be able to get one by Christmas."
Furthermore, Cook did not discuss when he estimates the supply of iPad mini 2 will return to normal, nor did he specifically mention that the Retina display is the cause of the production issues.
