Nokia announced at Nokia World that both the Lumia 1520 and Lumia 1020 will support RAW files, offering professional users maximum flexibility for post-processing their photos. Nokia also detailed the RAW file support (in DNG format) on their official blog today, claiming that Lumia is "the only smartphone on the market today that supports RAW."

Currently, RAW support is already integrated into the Lumia 1520 and will soon be available for the Lumia 1020. In the Nokia Camera app, Nokia provides an option to save files in the DNG format (as shown in the image below). After capturing images, users can retrieve them by connecting their device via USB to a PC or Mac.

Nokia has also provided four sample photos in both JPEG and DNG formats for readers to explore. Typically, each DNG file exceeds 40MB in size, and the official Dropbox link was temporarily disabled due to excessive traffic.

RAW – A raw image file contains minimally processed data from the image sensor of a camera or other imaging device. This allows professional users to perform post-production editing and adjustments.

DNG Format – Adobe Digital Negative (DNG) is an open lossless raw image format that serves as an extension and compatibility layer for TIFF 6.0 and TIFF/EP standards. It incorporates various open formats and/or standards, including Exif metadata, XMP metadata, IPTC metadata, CIE XYZ coordinates, ICC profiles, and embedded JPEGs.
