On the evening of October 29, Beijing time, market research firm Strategy Analytics released a report stating that Samsung shipped 120.1 million phones in the third quarter, surpassing the combined total of Nokia, Apple, and LG.

In this quarter, Samsung's global phone shipments grew by 17% year-on-year, capturing 29% of the global market share. Strategy Analytics believes this growth was mainly due to strong demand for Samsung's Galaxy Note 3 "phablet" and mass-market products like the Galaxy Y.

Nokia's share of the global mobile phone market last quarter was 15.5%, while Apple and LG held 8% and 4.4%, respectively. Despite strong demand for the Lumia product line, both Nokia's market share and shipment volumes declined compared to the same period last year.

Strategy Analytics executive director Neil Mawston stated: "Nokia’s global mobile phone shipments in the third quarter were 64.6 million units, slightly better than expected. Nokia's share of the global mobile phone market is 15%, showing signs of stabilization quarter-over-quarter due to increased demand for the Lumia smartphone lineup. However, Nokia's feature phone business remains a 'problem child,' with global shipments down 27% year-on-year."

In the third quarter, Apple's global phone shipments grew by 26% year-on-year, above the industry average. Due to strong demand for the iPhone 5s, Apple's market share is expected to continue rising this quarter.

According to Strategy Analytics data, Huawei ranked fifth globally as a phone manufacturer in the third quarter, holding a 3.5% market share with shipments of 14.6 million units. Global phone shipments grew by 7% year-on-year in the third quarter, reaching 418 million units. (Qiu Yue)
