Nokia's premature abandonment of the Symbian system and a full-scale shift to the WP platform has caused them to endure great pain during their transformation. Fortunately, their situation is gradually improving.
Nokia's third quarter financial report now shows that this quarter their net revenue was 5.66 billion Euros (Here Maps service department net revenue was 211 million Euros, Nokia Solutions and Networks Company net revenue was 2.592 billion Euros, Devices and Services Department net revenue was 2.898 billion Euros), which is down 21% from last year’s 7.2 billion Euros. Their operating profit reached 118 million Euros (approximately 162 million US dollars).
Although Nokia still incurred a loss this quarter, it is much better than last year at the same time. If nothing unexpected happens, they will start making money again in the Q4 financial report. The company's Q3 net loss was 91 million Euros (approximately 125 million US dollars). It should be noted that their net loss last year at the same time was 970 million Euros.
Nokia's Devices and Services Department (this department is about to be sold to Microsoft) net revenue was 2.898 billion Euros, compared to 3.563 billion Euros in the same period last year. Smart device revenue was 1.254 billion Euros, compared to 976 million Euros in the same period last year. Traditional feature phone revenue was 1.489 billion Euros, compared to 2.366 billion Euros in the same period last year.
In addition, Nokia's financial report also showed that between July and September this year, the sales volume of Lumia phones under its umbrella set a new record by reaching 8.8 million units (compared to 6.3 million units in the same period last year), while feature phone sales were 55.8 million units (compared to 76.6 million units in the same period last year).
Next month, Microsoft will fully complete the acquisition of Nokia, so their future days should not be too difficult.
