If the new algorithm does not detect that a couple is dating, the probability of their breakup within the next two months is as high as 50%.

On October 29th, according to foreign media reports, The Verge website stated that Facebook recently announced that one of its senior engineers and a professor from Cornell University in the United States have invented a new algorithm. This algorithm can relatively accurately predict who a user's recent dating partner is and whether the romantic relationship is at risk based on Facebook user data.

According to Facebook, the core of this new algorithm is a new metric called "dispersion." This metric evaluates the relationship between two individuals who each have their own social circles on Facebook. In addition to "dispersion," other metrics include the frequency with which users browse others' profiles and how often two users participate in the same event.

It is reported that the new algorithm can predict with an accuracy rate of up to 60% who a user is currently dating. If the new algorithm fails to detect that a couple is dating, the probability of their breakup within the next two months is as high as 50%.
