Obama's healthcare website, Healthcare.gov, has been plagued by poor code quality. The New York Times previously reported that about 1% of the code — equivalent to 5 million lines — needed to be rewritten. If this data is accurate, it would mean that the total codebase of Healthcare.gov amounts to an astonishing 500 million lines of code. What does 500 million lines of code mean? Facebook.com has approximately 75 million lines of code, and both OS X 10.4 and Windows XP have less code than Facebook. This means that Healthcare.gov's codebase is more than twice the combined size of Facebook, Windows XP, and OS X.
