Return rate of Samsung smartwatches reaches 30%

Best Buy expressed concerns in an internal document about the high return rate, as much as 30%, of Samsung's Galaxy Gear smartwatch.

This statement seems to indicate that while employees at the company successfully cross-sold many Galaxy Gears with the Galaxy Note3, many consumers appear not to have been satisfied with the device, resulting in a return rate as high as 30%.

Documents show that Samsung plans to roll out software updates for the Galaxy Note3, S3, S4, and S4 Active so they can all sync with the smartwatch; however, due to carrier issues, the timing of these updates may vary.

The reason the Galaxy Gear hasn't been widely embraced is partly because there are few compatible devices—currently only the Galaxy Note3. In addition, the product is bulky and lacks standout features.

Although this doesn't necessarily mean the Galaxy Gear will be a complete failure, it does indeed suggest that the product has not gained consumer approval.

Judging from Samsung's past patterns, they are quite likely to launch a new smartwatch model next year.
