The Fedora Engineering Steering Committee voted to accept the proposal of making Python 3 the default Python implementation version. In addition, Fedora's package manager will switch from yum to DNF. The debate over whether to use Python 3 as the default instead of Python 2.6 mainly revolves around their incompatibility, which has caused trouble for the migration of Python projects. Since its release in 2008, the Python 3 branch has been actively developed for five years and has now become mature and stable. Meanwhile, the currently maintained Python 2 branch no longer introduces new features but only accepts bug fixes and security updates; its earliest version was released in 2000.
