According to Gigaom, this Thursday Tesla Motors announced the employment of Doug Field, the vice president of Apple's Mac hardware design department.
Field initially worked at Ford Motor Company with experience in automobile manufacturing. Later, he joined Apple and was responsible for the product design of MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, and iMac.
In Tesla, Field will take charge of the design for the next generation of electric vehicles. The company plans to launch new cars Model X and crossover SUV by the end of next year, and then introduce a more affordable electric vehicle.
Tesla's Model S does not lack buyers. In fact, the current issue is that production cannot keep up. Therefore, if Tesla wants to become a more mainstream car manufacturer in the future, increasing production capacity following the success of Model S might be the path Tesla has to choose.
After the news of the appointment was released, Tesla's stock rose by 5.26% today, reaching $173.15.
Moreover, Tesla CEO Elon Musk once shared his entrepreneurial experiences and "secrets" on TED. Friends who wish to understand the history and future direction of this company might find it worthwhile to watch.
