AMD Greater China Area Director Pan Xiaoming recently stated that although the company will not enter the smartphone market, it is not ruling out providing customized services for handheld game consoles.

Pan Xiaoming made this statement during the launch of AMD Radeon R9 290X graphics card. He indicated that AMD currently has a unified gaming strategy. In the past, AMD only produced graphics cards for desktops and laptops, but now it focuses not only on traditional PC business but also on cloud gaming and customized gaming console businesses.

He further mentioned that the current company strategy for mobile business remains unchanged; we will not enter the smartphone market. However, we will not miss out on the cloud gaming business, which means AMD will handle game rendering and processing in the cloud while various terminals directly enjoy the gaming content. Meanwhile, he pointed out that AMD is looking for the next gaming console market. If the profit from handheld gaming is reasonable, then it does not rule out providing customized services for handheld game consoles.

It is reported that AMD recently announced its third-quarter financial results, showing revenue of $1.46 billion, an increase of 15% compared to last year's $1.27 billion; net profit reached $48 million, achieving profitability. Reuters noted that due to the chip manufacturer benefiting from supplying processors to new gaming consoles (such as Sony's PS4 and Microsoft's Xbox One launched in November), AMD's third-quarter performance exceeded analysts' predictions.

The company's CEO Rory Read stated at the above-mentioned earnings meeting that in the semi-custom market dominated by the three major gaming consoles - PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Wii U - they have achieved a 26% growth in performance. In the future two years, they will be dedicated to achieving a 50% revenue growth in related markets.
