Intel will launch a new batch of ultra-low voltage Pentium and Celeron processors in the first quarter of 2014. According to tradition, the clock speeds of the new models would be slightly higher, but this time it's an exception.
Currently, there are four mobile ultra-low voltage Pentium and Celeron models in the Haswell family: Pentium 3556U/3560Y, Celeron 2955U/2980U. All of them are dual-core dual-thread processors with base frequencies of 1.7/1.2/1.4/1.6GHz, 2MB L3 cache, HD Graphics integrated graphics, support for DDR3/L-1600 memory, and thermal design power (TDP) of 15W for U-series and 11.5W for Y-series.
The newly released four models are named Pentium 3558U/3561Y, Celeron 2957U/2981U.
At first glance at the leaked specification table, it was found that both the CPU and GPU frequencies are exactly the same as the current ones, leading to doubts about whether it was a mistake. Upon closer inspection, it was discovered that these so-called new models indeed did not have any frequency improvements. The only change is: support for WiDi wireless display technology.
Intel, you've really reached a new level of mischief.
