Previously, National Geographic photographer Jim Richardson highly praised the camera of the iPhone 5s, which upset Nokia quite a bit, as this is Lumia's forte.

Now, another photographer from the magazine, Alvarez, has taken real shots in Abu Dhabi with Nokia's 6-inch flagship, the Lumia 1520. Judging from the actual performance of the sample images, the results are extremely impressive, easily surpassing ordinary point-and-shoot cameras. PS: One of the images below will be selected for the cover of the October issue of National Geographic magazine.

The Lumia 1520's camera has 20 million pixels (it can simultaneously take 5 million pixel and 16 million pixel photos), with a sensor size of 1/2.5 inches, an aperture of f/2.4, and still features Nokia's own PureView image engine and OIS optical stabilization technology. From the effects captured by Alvarez, the color reproduction of the sample images is natural, and noise control is excellent (especially the night scene).

Most importantly, both the Lumia 1020 and Lumia 1520 now support RAW photo format, meaning users can directly save the original PureView sensor data. Both also have the refocus (ReFocus) function.

After experiencing the Lumia 1520, Alvarez, a photographer for National Geographic, stated that its camera performance was very impressive and outstanding. What pleased him was that this phone supports DNG format (a public archiving format standard for raw data files). PS: The professional results indeed make a difference.

National Geographic photographer Alvarez stated that these four pictures have not been modified in any way, they are direct outputs.
