A report from The Verge revealed that Facebook made a complete 180-degree turn in handling a video uploaded by a user.
The video causing such a dilemma for Facebook was shot by a user capturing the scene of a woman being beheaded, which clearly falls under violent content.
Initially, Facebook suspended the sharing of the aforementioned video. However, on the 21st of this month, this famous social networking site reopened the sharing function for this video. The website stated: "We are a place where users share and exchange information about all aspects of their lives, especially when people encounter controversial issues, they tend to post them on our platform."
Nevertheless, dramatically, Facebook's attitude took another "U"-turn on the 22nd, and this time it directly removed the related video.
In its statement, Facebook expressed:
"We believe that the video conveys inappropriate praise for violence."
Although Facebook's stance on certain controversial content seems inconsistent, if the purpose is to condemn related behaviors, users can still upload violent clips. Users need to "responsibly and seriously select the possible audience for these videos and try to inform in advance about the existence of violent content in the description."
Facebook also hinted earlier that the company might introduce a warning system for controversial image content.
