A survey released Thursday by U.S. employer review website Glassdoor indicated that the average annual basic salary for software engineers at network equipment manufacturer Juniper is nearly $160,000, surpassing well-known companies like Google, Facebook, and Twitter. Juniper topped the list of the 25 companies offering the best salaries to software engineers. However, the annual salaries mentioned in this survey do not include stock options or bonuses.

According to the survey, the average annual basic salary for software engineers across the United States is $92,790, making Juniper's $159,990 significantly higher than this standard.

The companies ranking second through fifth are LinkedIn, Yahoo, Google, and Twitter, with average annual basic salaries for their software engineers being $136,427, $130,312, $127,143, and $124,863 respectively. Apple ranks sixth, while Facebook ranks ninth.

Surprisingly, Walmart's software engineers ranked eighth, surpassing Facebook. Regarding this, MaryJo Fitzgerald, a spokesperson for Glassdoor, stated that the survey was not limited to tech companies. Walmart offers high salaries to attract top software engineers in order to provide better service experiences for its e-commerce business.

The average annual salaries for software engineers released by Glassdoor this year are slightly higher than last year. In the 2012 rankings, Google topped the list with an average annual basic salary for its software engineers reaching $128,336. The companies ranking second through fifth were Facebook, Apple, eBay, and Zynga respectively.
