Earlier this year, Ubuntu developers and users discussed whether to replace Firefox with Chromium as the default browser for Ubuntu 13.04. In June, developers seemed to lean towards Chromium. However, according to a survey conducted by the well-known Linux news site OMG! Ubuntu, 56% of users preferred Firefox (with nearly ten thousand people participating in the vote).
Ultimately, the final decision rests with the Ubuntu developers. Recently, in an email from Ubuntu developer Jason Warner, it was announced that Firefox will continue to be the default browser for Ubuntu 13.10.
The debate between Firefox and Chromium can now take a small break, but discussions will soon resume because the default browser for the next version, Ubuntu 14.04, has yet to be decided and will require further deliberation.
As a fan of Chromium, I really hope that one day after installing the system, I won't have to install Chromium as my first piece of software.
