Facebook plans to acquire Mobile Technologies, a developer of voice recognition and language translation applications, to enhance its technological capabilities in the mobile sector.

Facebook did not disclose the financial terms of the deal. In a blog post on Monday, Tom Stocky, Facebook's head of product management, said: "Voice technology has become increasingly important as people use mobile devices and the web."

Just a week earlier, Motorola, a competitor of Facebook and now owned by Google, launched the Moto X smartphone with built-in voice recognition technology. Apple's voice assistant Siri also uses voice recognition technology.

Mobile Technologies is headquartered in Pittsburgh, USA, and was founded in 2001. The company's mobile app, Jibbigo Translator, uses voice recognition technology to automatically translate more than 20 languages.
