According to foreign media reports on August 11th, Beijing time, Samsung Wallet was officially launched on Google Play on Friday. Samsung Electronics will widely promote the ticketing service function of this product in the United States and other countries.
In February this year, Samsung Wallet made its first appearance at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) and was initially released in the South Korean market in May. Although its name is similar to Google Wallet, Samsung Wallet is more like an Android version of Apple's Passbook.
Currently, Samsung Wallet only supports Samsung phones and is available only in the US market outside of South Korea. Samsung Wallet can be used to store and redeem electronic tickets such as tickets, coupons, boarding passes, and membership cards. In addition, Samsung Wallet users can choose whether to accept marketing advertisement push notifications and set up time and location reminder services.
Previously, Samsung revealed that its initial partners for Samsung Wallet in the United States include chain drugstore Walgreens, Major League Baseball (MLB), online travel company Expedia, Booking.com, Hotels.com, and Lufthansa Airlines. Samsung hopes to see how Samsung Wallet can be integrated into third-party applications and recommended to consumers.
