Microsoft readies a new Scroogled attack on 'Gspam'
Yesterday, Microsoft launched its latest Scroogled ad campaign against "Gspam," which once again targets Gmail. In the advertisement, Microsoft claims that Google scans user emails to serve ads and has now taken it a step further by presenting these ads in Gmail as if they were regular emails (similar to the ads in the Promotions tab of Gmail's recent redesign).
Back in February, Microsoft introduced the Scroogled campaign targeting Gmail for scanning user privacy to monetize through ads. Of course, in both campaigns, Microsoft also recommends Outlook.com as an alternative to Gmail. Beyond Gmail, Microsoft’s Scroogled campaign has also targeted issues such as Google Shopping ad rankings, Google Play privacy concerns, and Chrome privacy and security. This campaign was spearheaded by Mark Penn, Microsoft's Executive Vice President of Advertising and Strategy.
