August 9 news: According to foreign media reports, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang recently said in a media interview that Microsoft is developing the second generation of the Surface RT tablet. The new Surface RT will be integrated with Outlook.
This news is not surprising, as several Microsoft executives have stated that the company will not abandon the Surface RT. The Surface RT runs on Windows RT - a version of Windows 8 that operates on ARM architecture chips and cannot run traditional Windows software.
After media reported that Microsoft had reduced the price of the Surface RT and written off $900 million in assets due to inventory issues, Brian Hall, General Manager of the Surface Marketing Department, stated that the company would not abandon the Surface RT.
Weeks before announcing the asset write-down, Microsoft's Chief Operating Officer Kevin Turner said that the company was developing new versions of both the Surface RT and Pro, with possible release dates in 2014.
It is still unclear what measures Microsoft will take to enhance the appeal of the Surface. One rumor suggests that Microsoft is developing a smaller version of the Surface, possibly comparable in size to the iPad Mini. Another rumor claims that Apple is developing a Surface RT with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chip, which supports 3G and 4G LTE networks. However, Jensen Huang clearly believes that the Surface RT 2 will be equipped with an NVIDIA chip. Currently, Microsoft has not commented on this matter. (Zhu Zi)
