Asus said on Friday that the company will stop producing Windows RT tablets due to weak sales. Shen Zhenlai, CEO of Asus, stated that this is not only the opinion of Asus, but also the sentiment of the entire industry regarding the unsuccessful run of Windows RT.

Shen Zhenlai mentioned that due to the lack of backward compatibility in Windows RT, Asus will focus on producing Windows 8 devices that exclusively use Intel chips. In its second-quarter financial report, Asus took an impairment charge on its Windows RT tablet business. Previously, Microsoft had to take a write-down as high as $900 million for its Surface tablet business, having sold merely over a million units since its launch.
