The smartphone market is still experiencing explosive growth, and Android is undoubtedly leading the charge. According to the latest data released by IDC, as of the second quarter of 2013, Android held 79.3% of the smartphone market. This means that out of every 10 smartphones globally, 8 are Android devices.

Sales of Android phones grew by 73.5% in the second quarter, reaching 187 million units. Samsung was the biggest contributor to this success. In comparison, while iOS sales increased by 31.2% compared to the same period last year, Apple's market share actually declined. The reason is clear: Android's strong dominance combined with Windows Phone's steady growth has squeezed out iOS.

In the second quarter, 8.7 million Windows Phone devices were sold, capturing 3.7% of the market. From a sales perspective, this represents a 77.6% increase compared to the same period last year. Looking at the current situation, Microsoft has gradually stabilized its position and is slowly eroding the market shares of BlackBerry and iOS.
