Microsoft is undergoing a major restructuring aimed at helping the company focus more on devices and services. Despite all these efforts, Microsoft is no longer what it used to be; this tech giant isn't as cool as it once was.
The above comments were made by Robert Scoble, a former Microsoft marketing employee who has long since left the company. He believes that Microsoft should do things similar to what Google and Apple are doing. Scoble left Microsoft in 2006 and founded Podtech.net. He bluntly pointed out that Microsoft missed the best opportunities for tablet and smartphone development.
"What interesting things has Microsoft done since I left? All I can think of is Kinect. Is this the achievement expected from a company with over 9,000 employees? To have only one innovation in so many years really disappoints me."
"In contrast, Google has developed driverless cars, Google Glass, the Android system, Moto X, and more in recent years."
Scoble believes that a large part of the reason Microsoft has lost its innovative edge lies with the leadership. Ballmer's philosophy is to try to make more money through launching innovative technologies, which is wrong.
"When I interviewed Ballmer, he said that innovation is cool because it can make big money. This is a very bad idea. Google Glass may not have made a single cent yet, but it is new and interesting, which is why it has sparked so much conversation. If you're an innovator, you're thinking about advancing the future, not whether or not you can make money."
