Although the iPhone 4 was released three years ago, it remains highly active in the second-hand market, and surprisingly, its value continues to rise.
Foreign media reported that the investment firm Piper Jaffray began monitoring the transaction values of second-hand Apple and Samsung phones in March this year. The data they provided showed that since April, the second-hand sales price of the iPhone 4, which has been on the market for three years, increased by 10% on eBay, while the prices of the iPhone 4S and iPhone 5 dropped by 11.85% and 3.75%, respectively.
Meanwhile, the data also revealed that the resale price of the Samsung Galaxy S3 on eBay plummeted by 27.32%, while the price of the Galaxy Note II fell even more sharply, dropping by 35.54%.
Additionally, Piper Jaffray conducted a survey of the Chinese trading market (mainly Taobao). The results showed that since April this year, the transaction value of second-hand iPhone 4 units rose by 1.42%, whereas the prices of the iPhone 4S and iPhone 5 fell by 14.32% and 7.22%, respectively. On the other hand, the second-hand prices of Samsung's GS3, Note 2, and the latest GS4 dropped by 24.17%, 23.67%, and 14.39%, respectively.
