WeWi Communications has introduced an Ubuntu laptop called Sol with an integrated foldable solar panel. The target customers are the military, educational institutions, and developing countries that lack electricity. WeWi claims that Sol can be powered directly by electricity generated from solar energy (some people joked to be careful of dark clouds) or use solar power to charge the battery. After being fully charged, the battery can last 8 to 10 hours. The specifications of the Sol laptop are not very high: Intel Atom D2500 1.86 GHz dual-core processor, 320GB Seagate hard drive, Kingston 2-4GB DDRIII SDRAM (optional), Intel GMA3600 integrated graphics card, a 13.3-inch display with 1366 x 768 pixels, a 3-megapixel camera, Wi-Fi, GPS, and Bluetooth. The price of Sol is $350, and the waterproof version is priced at $400.
