A few days ago, people discovered a Barbie doll dressed in a spacesuit at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago. Priced at $12.99, this Mars Exploration Barbie was a collaboration between Mattel and NASA, specially launched to celebrate the first anniversary of the Curiosity rover's landing on Mars. It remains unclear whether NASA was involved in the design of this doll.

The slogan for the Mars Exploration Barbie is "Today's girl can also become tomorrow's Mars explorer." Perhaps in 20 years, when a journalist interviews a female Mars explorer, she will say that it was this Barbie that inspired her.
