Taobao and Tmall will ban low-price引流platforms: Alibaba says it is collecting opinions

August 6 news: Today, a Weibo leak claimed that "Taobao and Tmall will ban external platforms with non-standard transactions similar to Zhe800 and Jiuyou. Taobao and Tmall will take all strict measures against merchants this year. Some categories might not even be able to remain on the platform."

According to reports, Zhe800 was originally called Tao800, a third-party shopping guide platform under Tuan800. It mainly promotes products at 9 yuan with free shipping. This low-price promotion strategy brought significant traffic to Taobao sellers, attracting many Taobao sellers to participate. Jiuyou and Huale Tao also adopted similar operational models.

TechWeb specifically contacted Alibaba for this matter. Alibaba stated that no measures have been taken against Zhe800 and other trading platforms so far, nor will they act rashly. However, they are currently soliciting opinions from buyers and sellers regarding these low-price promotional platforms, and the final decision will determine whether any action is taken.

Alibaba's opinion solicitation includes:

1. Removing from main search results large volumes of sales originating from fixed sources known for low-price引流phenomena:

(1) Adjustment in calculation logic:

Sales generated by fixed sources known for large-scale low-price引流phenomena will not be included in search rankings. In addition to confirmed Juhasuo and Daily Specials, it may also consider excluding sales from Zhe800 and Tuan800 from search rankings. If websites with similar behavioral characteristics are discovered in the future, the same treatment may apply (we will inform everyone in advance before taking action).

(2) Adjustment in display logic:

The sales data displayed on the main search results page will exclude sales from Zhe800 and Tuan800 sources.

2. Sales calculation node adjustment from “payment upon order” to “successful transaction”:

(1) Adjustment in calculation logic:

The sales calculation node may change from "payment upon order" to "successful transaction".

(2) Adjustment in display logic:

The sales display method on the detail page will change from "Sold X items in 30 days" to "Paid X items in 30 days, Successful Transactions X items." Other pages may also gradually adjust to display only successful transaction volumes.

Alibaba explained that such measures were already implemented last year for Juhasuo and Daily Specials. Assuming Taobao and Tmall adopt the same approach, it would significantly reduce the chances of these low-price promotional products being found through searches on Taobao and Tmall, thereby enhancing customer purchasing experiences.

An insider close to Tuan800 revealed that after receiving this information, Zhe800 began urgently discussing countermeasures. If Alibaba truly implements this strategy, it will have a considerable impact on Zhe800.
