Recently, there was an incident where a flight attendant died after being electrocuted while using an iPhone, followed by another case of someone getting electrocuted while charging their iPhone. Although these two incidents are not directly linked to Apple, for safety reasons, they previously provided pictorial guidance on how to identify genuine chargers.
Possibly feeling the previous measures were not strong enough, Apple China has now issued another announcement stating that to ensure everyone's safety, they have initiated a USB Power Adapter Recall Program. This means starting from August 9th, users can bring counterfeit, imitation, and third-party adapters to Apple Store retail stores or Apple Authorized Service Providers for replacement.
In addition, Apple emphasized that replacing with an original charger will require an additional payment of 68 yuan, and certain conditions must be met: you must submit at least one USB power adapter and bring your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to an Apple Store retail store or relevant Apple Authorized Service Provider for serial number verification. For each iPhone, iPad, or iPod you own, you are limited to purchasing one Apple USB power adapter at a discounted price, valid until October 18, 2013.
It is important to note that this program is initially being launched in China, meaning the USB Power Adapter Recall Program will only start being implemented in other regions globally starting from August 16, 2013.
Friends who wish to participate should take action quickly.
USB Power Adapter Recall Program
Recent reports indicate that some counterfeit and third-party adapters may be poorly designed and could lead to safety issues. While not all third-party adapters pose problems, we have launched the USB Power Adapter Recall Program to ensure customers obtain properly designed adapters.
Apple always places user safety as a top priority. This is why all our products, including the USB power adapters for iPhones, iPads, and iPods, undergo rigorous safety and reliability testing and meet government safety standards worldwide.
Starting from August 9, 2013, in China, if you have concerns about any USB power adapters you own, you can bring them to an Apple Store retail store or Apple Authorized Service Provider for handling. We will ensure these adapters are disposed of in an environmentally responsible manner. The USB Power Adapter Recall Program will be rolled out in other regions globally starting from August 16, 2013.
If you need a replacement adapter to charge your iPhone, iPad, or iPod, we recommend purchasing an Apple USB power adapter. Within a limited time, you can purchase one Apple USB power adapter at a special price of 68RMB (including VAT). To qualify for this purchase, you must submit at least one USB power adapter and bring your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to an Apple Store retail store or related Apple Authorized Service Provider for serial number verification. For each iPhone, iPad, or iPod you own, you are limited to purchasing one Apple USB power adapter at the discounted price, valid until October 18, 2013.
Note: Due to the complexity of tests required to detect unsafe or counterfeit adapters, Apple Store retail stores and Apple Authorized Service Providers cannot provide advice on the authenticity or safety of your adapter. This special recall program applies to any USB power adapter used with iPhones, iPads, and iPods, as long as you have concerns about your adapter.
