Today, a Weibo post by Sun Changxu, the chief analyst of International Electronics Business, sparked heated discussions among netizens. Sun stated in the post: "HTC has been openly listed for sale, and Chairwoman Wang Xuehong is ready to abandon the smartphone business." After the post was published, it was retweeted over 3,000 times, with nearly a thousand comments.
Due to its widespread impact, HTC felt compelled to respond and issued a statement through its official Weibo account addressing the issue.
The full statement reads as follows:
"There are rumors circulating that HTC is being listed for sale. As a result, many users have reached out to HTC after hearing these rumors, expressing their love for the HTC brand and products. Hereby, HTC officially declares that these rumors are completely baseless. We also thank all our users for their support and affirmation. HTC boasts a robust corporate structure and outstanding innovation capabilities, and we firmly believe that HTC will continue to bring better products, designs, and experiences to our users. We hope everyone will continue to pay attention to and support HTC."
In addition, HTC China President Ren Wei Guang denied the rumor via text message to some reporters.
Although Sun Changxu later deleted the Weibo post, she mentioned on Weibo: "Whether HTC will be sold or not will be verified later. Lenovo is the most likely buyer."
