Team Explorer Everywhere 2012 Update 3 Released with Support for Eclipse and FreeBSD
Microsoft has released Team Explorer Everywhere 2012 Update 3, which includes several bug fixes and adds support for Eclipse. This update improves the performance of folder comparisons, thereby enhancing server performance in various scenarios, including routine local operations.
In previous versions, certain Unix-based systems experienced an issue where file execution permission bits were not automatically set after downloading files when communicating with TFS 2012 Update 1 or Update 2 servers. This issue has been resolved in the new version. The updated release supports large file uploads in addition to managed services, TFS 2013 Preview, TFS 2012, and TFS 2010.
Team Explorer Everywhere 2012 Update 3 now includes built-in support for the latest version of Eclipse, with backward compatibility to Eclipse 3.5. Based on feedback from developers and testers, Microsoft has also added native code support for FreeBSD on both 32-bit and 64-bit Intel architectures, including a command-line client for accessing TFVC.
According to official sources, the next version of Team Explorer Everywhere is expected to be released in a few months, focusing on improving usability and supporting symbolic links in Unix file systems. Additionally, since some projects host their code in TFS but use Git instead of TFVC as their source control repository, Microsoft plans to integrate eGit into the next update to facilitate usage for these projects.
With the release of Team Explorer Everywhere 2012 Update 3, Microsoft has also issued an update to the TFS SDK for Java, primarily addressing the aforementioned issues by making corresponding fixes to the Java API.
