At noon Beijing time on August 3, the latest data published by Google showed that in July, among all Android versions, the market share of Android 4.1 and 4.2 "Jelly Bean" broke through 40%, surpassing Android 2.3 "Gingerbread" for the first time to become the most used Android version.

Data shows that the market share of "Jelly Bean" rose from 37.9% in June to 40.5%. However, Android 4.1 still accounts for the majority, while the share of Android 4.2 merely increased from 5.6% in June to 6.5%.

This data comes from devices that accessed the Google Play store at least once in July. The data also shows that the market share of Android 4.0 "Ice Cream Sandwich" fell from 23.3% in June to 22.5%. The share of Android 3.0 "Honeycomb" dropped by 0.1%. The share of Android 2.3 "Gingerbread" decreased by 1% to 33.1%. The share of Android 2.2 "Froyo" fell from 3.1% to 2.5%.

The changes in the July data are good news for Google, meaning more users are moving towards more advanced Android versions. However, after Google released Android 4.3, the fragmentation problem of Android versions will become more severe. Android 4.3 was released last week and has not yet been included in the statistics. This version supports multiple accounts and Bluetooth Smart technology. Vendors such as Sony have already planned to release this update for some device models.

Currently, Android 4.3 is only available for Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 4, first and second generation Nexus 7, and Nexus 10. Google stated that the HTC One and Galaxy S4 in their Google edition will soon support this version of the system as well. (Weijin)
