As of now, the hardware specifications of the two new-generation gaming consoles, Xbox One and PS4, have been fully revealed. Based on the available data, the PS4 appears to have an absolute advantage in terms of graphical performance. However, Microsoft is determined to enhance the performance of the Xbox One in order to compete fiercely with its rival in this living room entertainment war.
Microsoft's Chief Product Officer for Xbox, Marc Whitten, confirmed that the hardware team has increased the GPU frequency of the Xbox One from the previous 800MHz to 853MHz, resulting in approximately a 6.6% performance boost.
Although the increase in frequency can indeed provide players with higher graphical performance, compared to the PS4, the gap in the number of GPU stream processors in the Xbox One remains insurmountable.
According to previously exposed data, both the PS4 and Xbox One use custom APU products from AMD, but there is a significant difference in the specific specifications of their GPU sections. The GPU of the PS4 has 1152 stream processors, while the Xbox One only has 768 stream processors.
According to the plan, both the PS4 and Xbox One will officially launch between November and December this year, with prices set at $399 and $499 (approximately RMB 2440 and RMB 3060). Interestingly, in stark contrast to players' extreme sensitivity to hardware specifications, game developers remain quite calm.
In mid-June, Dominic Guay, senior game producer at Ubisoft Montreal responsible for developing "Watch Dogs," frankly admitted in an interview with the media that current game titles are unable to fully utilize the performance capabilities of the new generation of gaming consoles. Therefore, at this stage, there is no difference in game performance between the PS4 and Xbox One.
