Sina Weibo's revamp is gradually underway. Yesterday, the multi-image function was launched and the mobile client version 350 also began public beta testing, marking the first time a third-party application has been integrated into the mobile end. According to insiders from Sina Weibo, after the merger of the Weibo Division and the Wireless Division, integrated development has already started on the product side.First-time integration of third-party applications on the mobile endSina Weibo’s multi-image function officially went online on April 24th, supporting both PC and mobile platforms. The integration of third-party applications mainly targets mobile-end development and has now entered the public beta stage. The new version 350 will be officially launched on April 26th.In the mobile client, the new version of Weibo has optimized the post button. The new post box splits the original image button into two buttons: take photo and user album, while adding a new attachment (+) button. After users click the attachment button, they can choose to insert topics, images, music, or content from other applications in the drop-down menu. Based on personal preferences, users can choose to add frequently used applications to the drop-down menu of attachments, or search for more third-party applications on the relevant recommendation page.Compared with previous sharing methods, in the new version of Weibo, when users share images, music, or content from other applications through the attachment button, the posted Weibo will appear in a brand-new card format. A product manager at Sina Weibo stated that compared to regular Weibos, card-type Weibos have better layouts that can stimulate user interest in clicking and further encourage secondary dissemination. For different types of applications, Sina Weibo will provide different templates to generate various forms of card Weibos and clearly label the source of related Weibos.A product manager at Sina Weibo revealed that according to the plan, 28 applications will join Weibo’s aggregation page in two batches soon, covering subfields such as reading and video. As the Weibo platform opens up further, more third-party applications will be integrated. In the future, a Weibo account could potentially become a pass, allowing users to use various kinds of applications on mobile internet with one account. The elevated status of mobile-end products in WeiboThis long-planned revamp by Sina Weibo involved a two-month closed development phase internally. Features are being released in phases, from the media edition of Weibo to information flow advertisements, and now to multi-image posting and third-party application integration, covering both PC and mobile platforms. It is worth noting that this revamp focuses somewhat on upgrading the mobile end. The presentation form of information flow advertisements on the mobile end has greater value and space. Multi-image functions and third-party application integration primarily focus on the mobile end.An insider from Sina Weibo stated that this means that since the merger of the Weibo Division and the Wireless Division, cross-terminal product integration has already begun.Towards the end of last year, Sina announced business and organizational structure adjustments, declaring that its strategic core for 2013 would be "mobile-first." Among others, the mobile Weibo product and technology team from the original Wireless Division, the commercialization product and technology team from the original Weibo Division, the Music Division from the original company, and project groups related to Weibo from the original Product Division were all merged into the Weibo Division. This confirmed earlier industry speculation that Sina Weibo would dedicate more effort to the development of mobile internet, reflecting recognition from Sina's upper management of the mobile client of Weibo. As of December 2012, Sina Weibo had over 503 million registered users, with 46.2 million daily active users. 75% of Weibo's active users log in via mobile terminals, and the mobile end contributes more than 30% of advertising revenue, with growth rates surpassing those of the PC end. From the current functional improvements, it is clear that the importance of mobile in Sina Weibo's future strategy is increasing, aligning with Sina CEO Charles Chao's directive that the company embrace mobile in mindset, enhance understanding of mobile capabilities, and allocate resources towards mobile.Sina's mobile transformation is not just limited to Weibo. It was also disclosed that Sina's news client, formerly known as Palm Sina, has been officially renamed Sina News and upgraded its functions, fully covering mainstream operating platforms like iOS and Android. It is expected to be officially launched by the end of April.
