SEO, Google Sandbox and Deindexing
The methods of SEO cheating are varied, as are the ways Google penalizes websites. For instance, many who aren't too familiar with SEO may not be able to tell if their website is in the Google Sandbox or has been penalized by Google.
This is because both the Google Sandbox and deindexing share some similarities – both involve a lack of rankings or poor rankings. However, only deindexing can be considered a form of punishment from Google; the Sandbox is not a punitive measure.
For those unfamiliar with the Google Sandbox mechanism, you can read this article on our website (www.seo.com.cn): http://www.seo.com.cn/Google-Sandbox-Effect.html.
The main manifestations of a site being penalized by Google include:
A drop in keyword rankings, where perhaps a website previously had many keywords ranking on the first page of Google. After being penalized, these keywords might fall from the first page to several pages down, or even disappear entirely.
Why does a site get penalized?
Primarily, it's because Google believes the site has engaged in deceptive practices. Perhaps the site used extreme SEO methods to artificially boost its keyword rankings. Upon discovery, Google will impose penalties based on the severity of the deception. Less severe cases result in deindexing, while more serious ones could lead to the complete removal of the site's data and refusal to index the site.
The difference between the Google Sandbox and deindexing:
It needs to be emphasized that the Google Sandbox is not a form of punishment. The Sandbox mechanism is merely an obstacle set up by Google to prevent new websites from gaining rankings through quick deceptive practices.
After passing the Google Sandbox test, a website can still perform well on the Google search engine. The duration of the Sandbox varies from site to site, with some lasting eight months and others just one month.
Deindexing, on the other hand, is a real penalty imposed by Google. It involves reducing the site's weight, causing some well-ranked keywords to drop. Whether recovery is possible after deindexing depends on the SEO methods used.
Commonalities between the Google Sandbox and deindexing: Directly searching for the URL results in either not finding the site or the site not being ranked first. Searching for the company name directly also yields similar results.
Differences: The Google Sandbox comes first, followed by deindexing. One could say that without the Sandbox, there wouldn't be deindexing. Google won't arbitrarily penalize a newly launched website.
Another point to note is that before registering a new domain, check if it has been used before, especially for SEO purposes. If the domain is fine but the new website still performs abnormally on Google, then check the server.
