The unique physicochemical properties of dimethyl ether establish its status as a basic industry in the international and domestic markets. It can be widely used in the fields of industry, agriculture, medicine, daily life, etc. In the future, dimethyl ether will mainly be used to replace automobile fuel, liquefied petroleum gas, city gas, etc., with extremely broad market prospects. It is currently a priority for development both internationally and domestically.

Dimethyl ether does not exist in nature and must be made from raw materials. Natural gas and coal are currently the better raw materials.

Data shows that China's production capacity of dimethyl ether was 31,800 tons in 2002, with an output of about 20,000 tons; in 2006, the production capacity exceeded 480,000 tons, with an output reaching 320,000 tons; in 2007, China's dimethyl ether production capacity reached 2 million tons, and projects under construction exceeded 10 million tons. The pace of expansion of dimethyl ether production capacity is rapid.

Starting from July 1, 2008, the value-added tax on dimethyl ether in China was reduced from 17% to 13%. This reduction in the value-added tax on dimethyl ether will help promote the development of the domestic dimethyl ether industry, or bring opportunities for the development of companies such as Tianmao Group.
