The well-known IT market research and consulting organization worldwide, Gartner Inc., released a research report on the 23rd day indicating that the number of computers currently in use globally has reached 1 billion. If this growth rate continues, this figure will double within six years.
The report pointed out that if the market maintains its current annual growth rate of around 12% over the next few years, it is estimated that by 2014, the global number of computers will reach 2 billion. Rapid economic development will make emerging markets the main force driving the increase in the number of computers, with 70% of the world's newly added computers in the coming years expected to come from this market.
However, developed countries remain the primary market for computers. The populations of the United States, Western Europe, and Japan account for 15% of the global population, but the number of computers in these countries and regions accounts for 58% of the global total. (Xinhua News Agency)
