June 11, 2008, Beijing - Google China announced today that the company is launching the open-source initiative for the Linux version of Google Desktop. This initiative adds Google Gadget functionality to the Linux version of Google Desktop and makes its source code openly available to all users. Users can either directly utilize the provided code or develop further applications based on the source code. This is the first open-source project globally from Google targeted at the Linux desktop, and it also represents the beginning of Google's strategy to implement an open platform.
