The EU's top anti-monopoly official called on governments of EU member states to use open source software on Tuesday, a move that is evidently a blow to Microsoft's proprietary software technology. The EU anti-monopoly commissioner Neelie Kroes said at a meeting organized by the non-profit organization OpenForum Europe which promotes open source software standards that no citizen or company should be forced or encouraged to choose closed technology instead of open technology. Governments should do this first.
