Reporters learned from the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) this morning that since the earthquake in Sichuan's Wenchuan, up until May 21st, police nationwide have investigated and solved 55 rumor mongering cases online, and arrested 55 criminal suspects. According to MPS, while the whole nation is devoting themselves to earthquake relief, some criminals are taking advantage of the situation by spreading rumors and false information via the Internet, disturbing public confidence; or using earthquake relief as a cover to defraud money, disrupting social order. The police have dealt with people committing crimes via networks timely.
