The Wenchuan earthquake once interrupted the communications by land and water. The airdrop of supplies, transfer of disaster victims and rescue of the wounded put our aerial rescue ability to a severe test.

"The main helicopters we dispatched were Super Puma helicopters and other large ones suitable for rescue," a relevant person in charge of the Operation Department of COFCO Group's offshore helicopter service said to the Morning Post yesterday. On May 15, the Emergency Office of the CAAC urgently dispatched 30 helicopters in the civil aviation industry to the disaster areas to participate in the relief work. Together with the additional 60 helicopters from the Air Force and the previous 20 helicopters, there were a total of 110 helicopters in the disaster areas, which set the record for the largest number of helicopters ever requisitioned in China.
