The Meritorious Coach of the National Weightlifting Team Died of Overwork during the Spring Festival Training

Liang Xiaodong (file photo) Hunan Daily, January 24th, (reported by Jingqing Deng), Liang Xiaodong, coach of the national men's weightlifting team and director of Hunan Province Weightlifting Sports Management Center, died in the line of duty at the age of 52 due to overwork-induced sudden cardiac death while preparing for the London Olympics with the national team on the morning of the 23rd. Director Liu Peng of the General Administration of Sport of China made a directive on the same day expressing deep condolences.

In his directive to the National Weightlifting, Wrestling, Judo Center, Liu Peng pointed out, "Comrade Liang Xiaodong sacrificed his life in the line of duty while preparing for the London Olympics, causing immense sorrow. I extend my deepest condolences and offer my condolences to his family. The Weightlifting, Wrestling, Judo Center, Hunan Provincial Sports Bureau, and related parties must spare no effort in properly handling all posthumous affairs."

Liang Xiaodong was born in Jiangyong County, Hunan Province, and was the启蒙 coach of our province's world champion weightlifters Wang Mingjuan and Le Maosheng. He assumed the position of Director of the Hunan Province Weightlifting Sports Management Center in November 2008. In 2009, under Liang Xiaodong's leadership, our province's weightlifting team won five overall championship titles at the 11th National Games in Shandong, making our province the one with the most gold medals in a single session in the history of the National Games weightlifting events. In 2009, Liang Xiaodong was selected as the "Advanced Worker of Hunan Province" by the Hunan Provincial Government; on November 20, 2011, he took up the position of Group Leader of the Third Training Group of the National Men's Weightlifting Team. Since the end of 2011, Liang Xiaodong has been steadfastly on the job, continuing to lead the team in training even during the Spring Festival.

Weightlifting is a traditional advantageous project in our province's competitive sports. Our province's weightlifting team has trained multiple Olympic champions and world champions such as Yang Xia, Le Maosheng, Wang Mingjuan, Yang Lian, Long Qingquan, and Li Ping. Currently, our province has a total of nine athletes undergoing training with the national weightlifting team, many of whom possess the strength to compete for gold medals at the London Olympics.
