South Korean rescue team searches for survivors
"This earthquake was just too terrible, but the speed of Chinese officers and soldiers is amazing!" Yesterday, the leader of the South Korean rescue team, Kim Young-seok, told our reporter (Guangzhou Daily) about his feelings regarding the Wenchuan earthquake and the rescue efforts.
The South Korean rescue team arrived at 1 a.m. on May 17 at Hongda Chemical Plant in Yinghua Town, Shifang City, to carry out rescue operations. Yesterday, our reporter interviewed the leader of this team, Kim Young-seok. Kim Young-seok said that there were a total of 54 rescue personnel from South Korea, and the sound detection equipment and other professional tools they brought for saving trapped individuals are among the most advanced in the world. The rescue team's mission in China is expected to last approximately seven to ten days.
Kim Young-seok stated that he has been involved in rescue work for over 30 years and has witnessed various disasters around the world, but the Wenchuan earthquake left a deep impression on him. On the way to Shifang Town, he saw many helpless victims and their completely destroyed homes.
When discussing his thoughts on our country's rescue personnel, Kim Young-seok couldn't help but express admiration: "The speed and focus of the Chinese People's Liberation Army are very high, and their high efficiency makes me feel extremely impressed!" (Liu Yiming, Liu Haijian, Wu Bo)
