Thrombocytopenic purpura is a relatively common bleeding disorder. It is currently believed that its pathogenesis is related to immunity, hence it is also called immune thrombocytopenic purpura. Its manifestations include a decrease in platelets in the peripheral blood, accompanied by skin purpura, mucosal bleeding and other bleeding phenomena clinically, shortened platelet survival time, and compensatory hyperplasia of megakaryocytes in the bone marrow.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), it is believed that this disease is mostly caused by blood heat, yin deficiency with hyperactivity of fire, qi deficiency with loss of control, and internal obstruction of blood stasis. Treatment should focus on clearing heat and cooling blood, nourishing yin and clearing heat, strengthening the spleen and invigorating qi, and resolving blood stasis to stop bleeding. 1. Hemostatic Drink with Burnet Root, Donkey Hide Glue, Peanut Coats, and Honey
Ingredients: 50g of burnet root, 10g of donkey hide glue, 30g each of peanut coats and honey.
Method: Slice the burnet root, roast until carbonized, then put into a casserole with peanut coats, add an appropriate amount of water, soak for a while, boil and take the juice, incorporate honey and donkey hide glue until melted and drink. One dose per day. It clears heat and cools blood, suitable for thrombocytopenic purpura with skin ecchymosis or petechiae, fresh red spots, accompanied by nosebleed, gum bleeding, vomiting blood, hematuria, bloody stool, or irritability, thirst, short yellow urine, constipation, fever, or abdominal pain, etc.
2. Colla Corii Asini, Kudzu Powder, and Lotus Rhizome Powder Soup
Ingredients: 15g of colla corii asini, 30g of kudzu powder, 60g of lotus rhizome powder.
Method: Crush the colla corii asini, put it in a pot, add an appropriate amount of water, boil until melted, add kudzu powder, mix evenly, continue to simmer until boiling, incorporate lotus rhizome powder mixed with cold water, stir continuously while heating until it forms a soup-like consistency. One dose per day. It nourishes yin and clears heat, suitable for thrombocytopenic purpura with more purpura, fresh red color, scattered distribution, longer course of disease, intermittent onset, often with nosebleeds, gum bleeding, or accompanied by afternoon fever, hot hands and feet, restlessness, dry mouth, palpitations, night sweats, dizziness, tinnitus, fatigue, etc.
3. Red Peanuts with Skin, Colla Corii Asini, and Red Dates Decoction
Ingredients: 30g of red peanuts with skin, 15 jujubes, 10g of colla corii asini.
Method: Clean the red peanuts with skin, cook together with jujubes in a casserole, add an appropriate amount of water, boil over high heat, then switch to low heat and simmer for 1 hour. Wash the colla corii asini, put it in another pot, add water and boil until melted, incorporate into the casserole of red peanuts with skin, mix well, simmer until the peanuts are tender. One dose per day. It strengthens the spleen, invigorates qi, nourishes blood, and controls bleeding, suitable for thrombocytopenic purpura with repeated episodes of purpura, long-term illness without cure, pale purple bruises, frequent nosebleeds, gum bleeding, pale face, pale lips, fatigue, poor appetite, etc.
4. Three-Seven Flower Chicken Stew
Ingredients: 15g of three-seven flower, 10g of colla corii asini, 150g of mother chicken meat, appropriate seasonings.
Method: Slice the three-seven flower thinly, cut the mother chicken meat into pieces, cook together with ginger slices and green onion segments in a pot, add an appropriate amount of water. Boil over high heat, then switch to low heat and stew until the chicken meat is tender, add salt and other seasonings, stew for one or two more times until boiling. One dose per day. It promotes blood circulation and resolves blood stasis, suitable for thrombocytopenic purpura with dark purple bruises, dark complexion, excessive menstruation in women with purple blood clots, dull and lusterless hair, or accompanied by chest tightness, flank pain, lower abdominal distension, dysmenorrhea in women, etc.
5. Jujube, Peanut, and Pig's Trotter
Ingredients: 40 jujubes, 1000g of pig's trotters, 100g of peanut kernels, appropriate seasonings.
Method: Wash and soak the jujubes and peanut kernels; clean the pig's trotters, cook until four-tenths done, then remove, mix with soy sauce, fry in oil until golden brown, place in a casserole, pour in clear water, add jujubes, peanut kernels, rice wine, green onions, ginger, Sichuan pepper, salt, etc., boil over high heat, then switch to low heat and stew until tender. One dose per day. It nourishes blood and strengthens the spleen, suitable for anemia, thrombocytopenic purpura, leukopenia, postpartum lactation deficiency, etc.
6. Softshell Turtle Shell Stewed Duck
Ingredients: 1 white duck, 50g of softshell turtle shell, 30g of raw rehmannia, 12g of tree peony bark, appropriate seasonings.
Method: Remove the feathers and innards from the duck, wash clean, place the herbs inside the duck, add an appropriate amount of water, stew until the duck meat is tender, remove the herbs, add salt, monosodium glutamate, taste the meat and drink the soup. Two doses per week. It nourishes yin, clears heat, calms the network vessels, and stops bleeding, suitable for thrombocytopenic purpura accompanied by irritability, thirst, hot hands and feet, etc.
