By Graeme McMillan | @graemem | October 29, 2010 | + Tweet Remember Ron Howard and Akiva Goldsman's ambitious cross-media adaptation of Stephen King's The Dark Tower series, which will start with a film, then continue as a TV series for a year, followed by another movie, and then back to television, and so on? Well, now we know it's all official and really happening because Universal has announced the release date for the first movie. Right at the end of a list of Universal's "tentpole" releases over the coming years — which also offer dates for Ouija, apparently a Hasbro co-production, and Snow White and the Huntsman among others — is the announcement that The Dark Tower will be released on Friday, May 17, 2013. Presumably, the continuation TV series will begin the following fall season, most likely on NBC (because of the connection between the company that owns NBC and Universal, although Syfy is always a possibility). Yes, it's more than two years in the future, but still: time to get excited.
