Beijing Morning Post (reporter Xin Wu) - Song Anning, the former chief manager of China Social Sciences Press' issuing department, colluded with book merchants to privately sell books at a low discount and profited more than 3 million yuan. It was reported yesterday from Xicheng District Procuratorate that Song Anning was sentenced to life imprisonment. Wang Yu, a prosecutor of Xicheng District Procuratorate, introduced that in 2006, Song Anning, a post-80s individual, entered the Social Science Press, rising from a small salesperson to become the issuing manager, specifically responsible for the issuance work in Beijing-Tianjin region. In order to fulfill his girlfriend's dream of studying abroad, starting from 2007, Song Anning collaborated with book merchants Zhang and Liu, among others, selling books at a price significantly lower than the discount set by the publisher, then pocketing the proceeds. He created false statistical tables, placing the personal book purchases of Zhang, Liu, and others under the business of the unit’s major client, Xinhua Bookstore, writing the discount price on the statistical table as no less than 6.2 off. Such a discount price met the unit's regulations, allowing him to get away with it. Until the case broke out in August 2010, Song Anning had arbitrarily sold books worth over 8.6 million yuan from the Social Science Press at a low discount, embezzling more than 3 million yuan. With money, Song Anning became very generous; he took his girlfriend to travel in Australia and bought her a Ford Fiesta car. Later, Song Anning started dating another girlfriend and spent 160,000 yuan to buy her a car.
