According to relevant surveys, due to the changes in lifestyle and eating habits, the incidence of hemorrhoids is gradually increasing. Experts from the Nanjing Armed Police Hospital's Proctology Center informed everyone that in fact, 90% of hemorrhoid patients have poor eating habits.

Nine out of ten hemorrhoid patients have poor diets. Hemorrhoids are actually formed by the dilation of subcutaneous blood vessels around the anus, partly related to genetic factors. However, bad dietary habits are the biggest culprit, with nine out of ten patients having very poor eating habits. They prefer fried, stir-fried, and other "heat-inducing" foods while refusing high-fiber vegetables and fruits. Teachers, office administrative personnel, waiters, and other professions that involve prolonged sitting or standing are high-risk groups for hemorrhoids.

It is worth noting that having bad eating habits does not necessarily mean consuming things you shouldn't, such as spicy foods and alcohol. While these indeed cause congestion in the anal and rectal vessels, chili peppers also directly irritate the anus, easily leading to venous congestion and anal sinus inflammation. However, some seemingly minor dietary habits can also be triggers for hemorrhoids, like always eating refined grains and high-protein foods while consuming fewer vegetables and fruits, which can lead to and exacerbate constipation, thereby inducing hemorrhoids.

The best treatment method is preventing hemorrhoids.

To prevent hemorrhoids, proctology experts recommend drinking more plain water and light tea, and eating more radishes, tomatoes, pears, lilies, silver ears, and other foods to replenish the body's fluids. The diet should appropriately increase whole grains, beans, and vegetables and fruits rich in fiber to enhance intestinal peristalsis and prevent constipation. Additionally, when you feel the urge to defecate, don’t hold it in; avoid reading or looking at newspapers while on the toilet, and don't squat for too long or exert excessive force. Because prolonged squatting and straining can cause congestion in the anus and intestines, leading to pathological enlargement, prolapse, and bleeding of the anal cushions.

Experts from the Nanjing Armed Police Hospital's Proctology Center kindly remind: using food regulation to prevent constipation is the most scientific method. Moreover, high-fiber vegetables such as spinach, celery, bamboo shoots, pig and sheep intestines, black sesame seeds, honey, etc., can be consumed more often, while spicy foods should be minimized. Wishing you a speedy recovery.
