Tricycle driver returns large sum of money to passenger
A woman accidentally left 80,000 yuan in cash on the seat of a tricycle. The tricycle driver found the large sum of money and returned it to the passenger.
According to reports (by reporter Tang Huaming, correspondents Song Junchu and Liu Wei), yesterday morning, 48-year-old Duan Guirong and her daughter Peng Wan came from ZaoYang with 80,000 yuan in cash to conduct business in XiaoChang. Due to carelessness, they left the bag containing the cash on the tricycle. Fortunately, 53-year-old tricycle driver Liu Meizhou discovered the bag and promptly returned the large sum of money to Ms. Duan Guirong.
At around 12:30 PM yesterday, I arrived at the Xingcheng Police Station of the XiaoChang Public Security Bureau where I met Ms. Duan Guirong who was anxiously filing a report. Ms. Duan Guirong said that at around 11 AM, she and her daughter returned to XiaoChang with 80,000 yuan in cash. After getting out of the bus station, they hired a tricycle to take them to the new district. Not long after getting off the tricycle, Ms. Duan Guirong realized that the small bag containing the cash had been left on the tricycle. This money was the hard-earned savings of her husband over several years of work.
After receiving the report, the police officers immediately took Ms. Duan Guirong to review the video footage from the time and searched for the tricycle driver who had taken her home.
Liu Meizhou, aged 53, lives in HuangWan New Village with his wife. They make a living by delivering goods and occasionally driving a tricycle. After dropping off Ms. Duan and returning home for lunch, he noticed a bag on the back seat of the tricycle. Upon opening it, he found not only a household registration book and ID card but also 80,000 yuan in cash. Seeing that the lost-and-found owner, Ms. Duan, was from Xiaopeng Village in the local area, he asked an acquaintance to notify Ms. Duan in Xiaopeng Village.
When Ms. Duan received the 80,000 yuan in cash that had been lost for several hours from Mr. Liu's hands, tears streamed down her face as she repeatedly thanked the kind-hearted Mr. Liu and his family.
